Audience Feedback For Final Project

Question 1 - What genre does the sequence belong to?

This shows, how all of the people who filled in the questionnaires knew that the genre was social realism, which is what we were aiming for.

Question 2 - Who were the main character(s) in the sequence?

As you can see from this graph, all of the people who answered the question knew that Lex was the main character, and all but one of them noted down Kieran as the other main character. Three people also said that Tom was a main character, which isn't true but could easily be confused because he is seen the short clip, even though he would not be featured in the rest of the film.

Question 3 - What is happening in the sequence? Is it clear?

All 10 people thought that the sequence was clear and managed to grasp the general gist of the plot with comments such as "the girl is running away from her abusive boyfriend" and "thinking back to what has happened - running away from everything."

Question 4 - What could make the narrative clearer?

The ten people who did the questionnaire all said that the narrative is clear enough for an opening sequence, and that nothing really needs to be changed in this aspect.

Question 5 - Would you want to watch the rest of this film? Please explain your answer.

9/10 people wanted to watch the rest of the film. The one who did not simply stated "it's not my cup of tea" which seems more to reflect the persons personal state rather than the content of the sequence. Other positive comments were things such as "looked exciting - drew me in!" and "I want to know what happens with the girl."
These are positive comments as people seem to have been really drawn in by the opening sequence.

Question 6 - Does the music work well with what's on screen?

Again 9/10 people were satisfied with the choice of music. The one person who was not said that it was "too slow paced and repetitive" which is understandable considering what is happening on screen is fast paced compared to the music, however, the majority liked it, so we still think it was a good choice to show the development from the slow beginning of the sequence to the faster paced sequence or Lex leaving.

Question 7 - Does the pace of the sequence feel right to you?

10/10 people agreed with the pace we had chosen for the sequence, because, I think, it is exciting to watch and keeps people engaged.

Question 8 - Do you think the appropriate conventions were used for the genre? (Mise en scene, lighting, music, cinematography, editing)

Also, 10/10 people thought that we used the appropriate conventions, which would have earlier helped them to identify the genre of the sequence as social realism.

Question 9 - Do you think the shots are interesting? Any examples?

Out of the nine people who answered this question, half mentioned the extreme close up used at the very beginning of the sequence of the characters eyes, which we used in order to build up an immediate relationship with said character, and the flashback sequence, showing the characters thoughts. Also mentioned were "continuity shots done well" and the close up of Lex dragging on the cigarette, which helps to create the desired genre of social realism.
